MEET LELAND HYER

Educator. Public Servant. Community-Rooted Leader.

Leland Hyer’s journey of service began long before he stepped into a classroom. As a child, his father was the Superintendent of the Georgia Academy for the Blind. His earliest role models were dedicating their lives to helping visually impaired students flourish. It was there—surrounded by compassion, discipline, and integrity—that Leland first witnessed leadership in action.

One of his earliest and most defining memories is captured in a photo: a young Leland shaking hands with then First Lady Nancy Reagan during her visit to the Academy for the Blind. That moment planted a lifelong interest in public service, which would later lead him to intern for the U.S. House of Representatives, serve in the Army National Guard, and become a trusted advisor and volunteer for local, state, and national campaigns.
